As a Product Manager on Google Chrome, people ask me all the time about tips they can use to make their browsing experience better. Here are a few top tips:
1. Let Chrome autofill your passwords, credit cards, and addresses
Chrome can autofill your data on the web, so you don’t have to keep typing in the same information. It’s important to make sure your saved passwords, credit cards and addresses are up to date in Chrome Settings.
2. Never type, think about or remember your passwords again
Chrome can generate strong, unique passwords for you so that you don’t need to memorise or type your passwords in the future. You can always access your saved passwords in Chrome Settings or in passwords.google.com.
3. Add Nicknames to Your Credit Cards
If you’re like me and have a few credit cards saved in Chrome, then it can be hard to choose the right one on websites. To make this easier, you can give nicknames to your credit cards in Chrome autofill settings.
4. Share a Specific Part of a Website
If you want to share a specific part of a website with someone, then highlight the text, right-click and select “Copy link to highlight”.
5. Key Shortcuts for Your Computer
I use the following keyboard shortcuts the most on my computer:
- Command / Ctr + A: Search across your tabs
- Command / Ctr + 9: Switches to the last tab
- Command / Ctr + H: Switches to the last tab
- Command / Ctr + T: Open a new tab
- Command / Ctr + W: Close the current tab
- Command / Ctr + Q: Quit Chrome
- Command / Ctr + A: Select all content on the page
- Command / Ctr + S: Save the page
- Command / Ctr + N: Open a new window
- Command / Ctr + L: Focus on the address bar
- Command / Ctr + Shift + T: Reopens your last closed tab
6. Bookmark all tabs
If you want to bookmark multiple pages on Desktop at once, simply click on “Bookmark all tabs”.
7. Watch a video while using different tabs
The Picture by Picture extension allows you to watch a video while using different tabs. You can download it from the Chrome Web Store.
8. Quicker calls from Desktop to your Android phone
If you have an Android phone, you can send a phone number directly from Chrome Desktop to your phone. Just right-click on the number and choose the option to send to your device. You need to make sure you’re signed in to Chrome with the same account on Desktop and your phone.
9. Swipe to switch tabs on Android
It can be time-consuming to change Chrome tabs on a small screen. Instead, you can swipe across your Chrome address bar to easily switch between tabs.
10. Focus on a Few Tabs Only
To focus on a few tabs on Desktop, select the one of the tabs, hold Shift, click on the other tabs you want to focus on and drag them into their own window
